News about CIAA Tournament Thursday

The CIAA tournament will be here before you know it, back for its third straight year in the Queen City.

And so am I, back to provide a running dialog with the fans about all things CIAA.

I know it’s a little early, but I’ve already gotten questions from some of you about this year’s tournament, which runs Feb. 25-March 1.

For instance:
Question: Did Charlotte get the CIAA tournament for 2009-2011??
Gail A. Hoggard, Atlanta.

Answer: Not yet, but CIAA Commissioner Leon Kerry said in September that he wants to make Charlotte the CIAA’s permanent home. It won’t be official until other cities are allowed to bid on it.

The answers to some of your questions may be answered Thursday when CIAA and city organizers hold an 11 a.m. news conference at the Charlotte Convention Center.

The press release says they’ll discuss ticket sales, new CIAA events, national artist appearances and an MLK community event, among other things.

So stay tuned. I’ll keep you posted.

If you have questions or comments, you can put them in the comments section below. Thanks.

Great to see you're starting early. As the time gets closer, I get more excited. Here are my random thoughts...

1) Will many fans use the new light rail line? It should help tremdously with the daytime parking issues.

2) Since Raleigh recently "kicked out" the MEAC, will they make a "power move" to get the CIAA back?

3) Should Charlotte.com dedicate a page to CIAA sports on a permanent basis? The N&O in Raleigh does.

4) What's the real deal on expansion? We know Lincoln's in for B-Ball and Chowan for football, but who's next?

5) Lastly, the city wants all fans to enjoy themselves, but can't something be done to curb all the cruising that happens during the weekend nights? Some of those folks aren't out to enjoy the events at all, they're just causing traffic.

The only thing on most peoples mind is will Charlotte get the tournament for another three years. They should tell people that now. You have to plan at least a year in advance to make it to the CIAA because of hotel bookings.

Nice blog. Hopefully, the entries get a little more regular as we approach March.

Always look forward to the CIAA. It has become a tradition for my crew. We usually have reservations by now. Hope a decision is made very soon as to whether Charlotte will host in 2009. Charlotte has really gotten more CIAA friendly. We had a wonderful time last year.
